How to remove salt stains from your boots!

I love snow and cold….. but a sure companion to these wonderful winter delights (which I don’t love) is the salt stains on my boots.

You properly know the problem: Snow, slush and salt from sidewalks and roads can leave marks on your shoes and boots…… My question is: how do you usually take care of your best boots when the weather is as it is right now? And what do you do if those pesky white salt circles have taken permanent residence on your boots?

Here are some tips that can save your boots from looking worn and dull:

1. When the weather forecast predicts snow and cold, you shout impregnate your boots every third day - all products are equally good, although shoe shop assistants would properly argue otherwise.

2. Never place your boots to dry by a heater - it dries the skin, and salt and dirt will stick.

3. When you come indoor from sleet, snow and slush: take your boots off, and rinse them gently with cold water. Then put them to dry on a newspaper. When they are dry, treat them with shoe polish, color spray or conditioner and then impregnate them.

4. If the damage is done and salt circles are stuck on your boots, you can steam them over a pan of water mixed with vinegar or lemon juice. It will make the white circles disappear.

Another tip I would like to chipping in, is from the consumer site www.tjek.dk:

If the damage is done: dab the leather with milk on the infected places. The milk neutralizes the acid salt and stops the injury process.

I hope these little tips will help you walk through winter with lovely shiny boots.

Happy Saturday

The landscap…..

….. that in the summer may seem mild and sensual….. and make your soul float…..

….. can in winter: be raw, storm-beaten and give you cold cereals that can penetrate your skin.

But this crisp cold, can be incredibly stimulating….. as you come back indoors and sitting next to the stove, the aroma of birch, burning merrily, will penetrate your head outside as well as inside….. and leave a gentle calm in your soul.

Happy Friday

Hmmmmmmmm…..

….. the past few days have been….. interesting….. as it turns out, life is full of surprises.

Last night, in honor of my terrible-horrible-no-good-very-bad-mood, I threw myself a little pity party. I curled up on the couch, wrapped myself in a big fuzzy blanket, and cracked open a bottle of red wine….. and then I sat there for a while and just wallowed….. it was good times.

Here’s the thing: one of the greatest lessons I’ve gotten in life is: To embrace emotion.

Often in life, when feelings start to bubble up, whether it’s sadness, frustration, anger, whatever; we push the emotions away because it’s temporarily easier…..but unfortunately the feelings (most of the time) just come back to haunt us at a later stage (and usually with even greater force).

So….. for better or for worse, when I’m in a crappy mood, I embrace it…… luckily, later in the evening, Peer came home and made me laugh hysterically!

So, tell me, what do you do when you’re in a grumpy mood?

Have you ever had…..

….. that feeling where:
you can’t be bothered thinking about stupid things.
you can’t be bothered worrying about what people think.
you can’t be bothered doing well all the time.
you can’t be bothered listening to conversations, so you just nod lots.
you can’t be bothered putting other people first.
you can’t be bothered analyzing everything.
CUZ IT JUST TAKES SO MUCH EFFORT.
Today I’m really, really tried & I just want life to give me a break!

And now we are talking about…..

…..  enjoying life….. let’s talk about food - a topic which is incredibly important to me. Here is a very simple everyday dish which is quite special (it has a very unique taste….. to be honest - a bit strange)….. but I’m sure most kids would love it.

Ravioli with vanilla and sage - 2 servings

You need:
250 g fresh ravioli
½ vanilla pod
2 ½ cup cooking cream
½ jar fresh sage
salt flakes
black pepper
freshly grated Parmesan cheese

And it is so easy:
Boil pasta in salted water.

Share and scrape the vanilla pod and cook it with cream in 3 minutes.

Add the ravioli and the chopped sage, season with salt and pepper and serve garnished with Parmesan cheese.

Did you know: that vanilla comes from a special orchid and is one of the world’s most expensive spices?
